So Very Posh

Thanks for visiting! This is the weblog of Lynda, a 26 year old girl living in Atlanta with her husband, three cats and two cockatiels.

What’s this blogging thing again?

I’m pretty sure I’ve forgotten how to blog about anything other than television.  Maybe it’s time I hang up this random-thought blog I have going and just set up one specialized on TV, since it’s one of my passions.

The only problem with that is since we DVR everything, sometimes I don’t watch an episode for days (or in extreme cases, weeks) after it’s aired, so it wouldn’t be the best blog for current and relevant discussion.

Hmmm, I’ll have to think about this more.

Lexmas

Smallville was absolutely ludicrous last night, but as a Lex and Lana shipper, I can’t say it didn’t make me squeal with glee.

I go back and forth with this show. Half the time, I think it’s awesome and I love how they’re developing the characters into the people we know they will become.  Many of the episodes though, especially this season, have just been so trivial and stand-alone there’s no point to them at all.

At one point, Smallville was high on the list of my favorite shows.  It’s still one of my favorites, but if it gets cancelled soon, I don’t think I’ll be too broken up about it.

Lost: 2-9, “What Kate Did”

As usual, my thoughts on last night’s episode of Lost.  This post contains spoilers so please do not continue unless you’ve seen the episode!

Lost: 2-8, “Collision”

We just got back into town last night after thirteen and a half hours driving and of course the first thing I did was plunk down on the couch to watch last week’s episode of Lost.  I’m terribly excited to have a new episode to watch tonight!  Here’s just a few notes on my thoughts about last week’s ep.  Spoilers ahead, so do not continue if you haven’t watched this episode!

Lost: 2-7, “The Other 48 Days”

That was one great episode!  It totally made up for all the crappy episodes I’ve put up with this season.

I have more to say, of course, so please only continue reading if you’ve already seen the episode.  Spoilers inside! You’ve been warned.

Lost: Unfinished list of character questions

Instead of a journal entry today I am going to write more about Lost since it is my new obsession.

Last week I promised a list of unanswered questions regarding the main characters.  I hope to add to this in some form or another as the plot thickens and answers are uncovered.

Lost: 2-6, “Abandoned”

I was so very excited about watching Lost last night because it was my first ‘real-time’ episode.  Caught up with the rest of the world, I can finally view (spoiler free) threads about the episode and interact with others about what’s going on.  I’ve decided I’m going to try to write out my thoughts after each show and post them here.

For now I’m not going to try to be structured or coherent and will just babble as I see fit.  I might try to organize my thoughts a little more in the future if I continue to do this.  Mostly my thoughts are just questions.  Feel free to comment with your own thoughts and/or theories, but please do not post or point me to any spoilers for future episodes.  (Mentioning what happened in the preview for next week is okay.)

Please continue reading if you want to know my thoughts on last night’s episode of Lost.  DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE EPISODE! Spoilers for last night’s episode are inside.  You’ve been warned!

I *LOVE* Lost

I rarely ever watch ABC, so when Lost premiered in last year’s fall schedule, I hadn’t seen any previews.  I didn’t even know it was coming on.  I heard nothing about it until it was several episodes into the season.  Fans were raving, thankfully not with spoilerific information.  The only thing I knew was that it was about the survivors of a plane crash and took place on an island (in real life Hawaii).

Since so many seemed to love the show, I was determined to see it.  The moment it came out on DVD, I added it as the highest priority in our Blockbuster queue and the first disc was sent out a few days later.

Mark and I held onto the disc for a little while before popping it into the DVD player.  I’m not sure what we were afraid of.

One weekend afternoon, I asked Mark if he wanted to watch an episode of Lost.  He said no at first, but I whined as I’m prone to do when we keep Blockbuster Online discs too long, and he quickly changed his mind. We watched the first episode, then the second.  Soon our afternoon was half over as we finished watching all four episodes on the first disc.  To say we were floored was an understatement.

“Have you heard anything about this show?” Mark asked me as we finished the disc, in a pleasant shock by what we’d just seen.

Nope, I only knew it was about the survivors of a plane crash.  He didn’t know about anything either.  That is not all this show is about.  Oh, not nearly!

We returned that DVD to be sent the second disc a few days later.  Soon all those episodes were devoured as well.  When Season 2 started, we debated over setting up a reoccurring recording on our HD-DVR.  We were afraid episodes of Lost would clog up all our DVR space before we got a chance to finish the first season.  At the last moment, I decided to go ahead and record it and we’d deal with the issue of DVR space when we crossed that bridge.  I can’t say enough how GLAD I am that we did that!

Around this time, Mark’s birthday was coming up so I decided to forgo the Blockbuster rentals and buy the first season outright as I knew we’d watch the episodes over and over and would enjoy lending them out so others could get hooked on Lost too.

Once we had around 5 or 6 Season 2 episodes on the DVR, the space issue was posing a threat.  I knew if we didn’t get the DVR cleared by the time we went to Texas for Thanksgiving, we’d have problems.  Mark and I made a commitment to finish the first season of Lost and have all the episodes from Season 2 watched and cleared off the DVR before we left for Texas.

This weekend, Mark and I watched Lost nearly nonstop.  I’m not sure a person’s supposed to watch that must Lost in a 48 hour period.  We breezed through disc after disc until we reached the end of season one and turned our attention toward the saved episodes on our DVR.  Here’s where I’m thankful for my decision to record it.  I’d really be kicking myself if I had to wait for Season 2 to come out on DVD before starting it!

Right now, we have one or two episodes to go before we are current.  I can’t believe we watched that much Lost over the weekend!  I’m definitely addicted.  It’s my new favorite TV show.  I’m not sure how I’m going to cope once we run out of episodes at our fingertips and I don’t even want to think about the hiatus between seasons.

If you haven’t got into Lost and especially if you’ve managed to avoid any spoilers, I would highly recommend renting the first disc of season one to try out a couple episodes.  I challenge you to watch two episodes before writing it off as just another show on TV.

To all my reads who watch Lost, I want to thank you for never being spoilerific in your visible posts and without warnings.  This show would not have been as good for me if I’d known anything about what would happen.

Week of 9/26 TV Schedule

This list is a lot more convenient than I thought it was going to be, so I’m probably going to continue doing it.  Unfortunately the DVR is no Tivo and keeping track of what’s recording is a lot more difficult (I could go into detail, but I doubt you care).  Here’s what we’ll be recording the week of 9/26:

Week of 09/19 TV Schedule

Mark and I watch waaaaaaaay too much television.  We might need to cut some back.  Our DVR has dual tuners and we can record HD shows, but it can’t really hold that much HD stuff, so we might have to resort to Tivo for some of the less liked shows.  The problem with recording shows in HD is that we need to watch them pretty quickly so the DVR doesn’t fill up.  If we could wait until the weekend to watch the shows, we’d be fine.  I’m posting the upcoming week’s TV schedule (stuff we’re going to record) so we hopefully won’t miss anything.

My Boring Drivel

I haven’t posted in a while. I wish I could say it’s because I’m off doing fun and exciting things, but really, I just don’t want to subject you to (too much of) my boring drivel.

I think I’m a little too consumed with Big Brother. In the past two or three weeks I’ve had two very weird, vivid dreams about Big Brother which involved me at one time or another being a houseguest.  Last night’s episode had me cracking up between Ivette’s hypocritical rant on Rachel (notice how the editors had no flashback clips to show us as proof of Rachel’s disgusting, disgusting behavior), April clumsily trying to fudge her way through the veto competition and Howie’s (the meteorology student) reference to a hurricane in the Pacific Ocean. (Ok, so apparently hurricanes can occur in some eastern parts of the Pacific, but when I think Pacific, I think typhoon)

I’ve been playing a lot of The Sims 2 lately. In fact, I can’t seem to get my fix of it. I can only really play in the mornings and when Mark’s out of the apartment in the evenings. It just doesn’t feel like enough. The next expansion pack, Nightlife comes out in a few weeks and I can hardly wait for it. I’ve been toying with the idea of setting up another Sim blog and another storyline/gameshow a la The Nut House, but I know I disappointed and angered fans back when I stopped updating The Nut House and I don’t want to do that to anyone again. Maybe I’ll flesh out something from start to finish and compose all the posts beforehand. In all likelihood though, this idea will go nowhere.

Harry Potter and Big Brother

Life has just been oozing along for me.  Slipping by without much notice.  I think this is what happens when I take a break from writing in my journal.  I’m just so disgusted by my writing I can’t write.  I know the longer I don’t write, the worse my writing will get, but that doesn’t seem to motivate me.

I got Scene It - The Harry Potter Edition yesterday and Mark and I played two games last night.  Super fun!  It has movie scenes and questions from the first four movies (obviously not further than that since it’s a movie game, not a book game).  Surprisingly, some of the questions are hard and require you remember exactly what happened in the movies in great detail.  Mark and I have been long time fans of Scene It so I just couldn’t resist picking this up.  It feels great to have a game where I know a lot of the material.  Thankfully it isn’t super easy, but I get enough questions right to make me feel good about myself.

I have a rant about Big Brother, so for the sake of those who don’t follow the live feeds, I’ll take it inside so you won’t be spoiled for tonight’s show…

Big Brother Overload

Big Brother is knocking my socks off this season!  I love half the hammies!

I’m very much rooting for Howie, Rachel, Janelle and Sarah (James… he sold Kaysar down the river, but I’m not sure that makes him evil - he’s playing the game, you know?) Last night we found out one of the evicted houseguests will be voted back in!!  I’m so excited.

Please do me a favor - even if you don’t watch Big Brother, take a moment and go vote for Kaysar to be sent back into the house.  Please.  If America screws up this decision and puts Eric back into the house, I’m going to be pissed.

BB6 Live Feed Recap: 07/09

To spare those of you who have no interest in Big Brother, I’m going to start posting no more than one BB recap a day.  For those of you who are interested in the recaps, I’ll post an “UPDATED” timestamp in the body of the post so you’ll be able to tell if the post contains new recaps.

We’re starting mostly with recaps from last night.  Let me just say that Maggie looks MUCH much much better with her hair up.  I’m still not 100% sure these pics are from Maggie.  She needs to stop dying her hair blonde and wear it up more often.

Big Brother Live Feed: 07/08 PM

I’m not trying to hurry up the season, but it’s really hard to keep track of anyone with 14 people in the house.  I can’t wait until some people go home so I’ll know where everyone is all the time.

Looks like it was a boring evening at the BB house.  Nothing too spoilerific inside.

Daily writing kicks my ass.  I have no idea why I’m having problems updating on the weekend, but it just isn’t working out for me. Mark and I had an awesome time at the aquarium.  It’s huge, but to…
