So Very Posh

Thanks for visiting! This is the weblog of Lynda, a 26 year old girl living in Atlanta with her husband, three cats and two cockatiels.

Where did it all go wrong Harry Potter?

Oh, hello!  Yes, I haven’t written in quite some time.  Blame the messy haired little bugger Harry Potter for that.  I don’t know what I’ve turned into.  I spent the last three weeks or so reading Harry Potter fanfic.  To say I’m hooked would be an understatement.

So you know NaNoWriMo is in full swing.  Every blasted year I say I’m going to participate and every year I just can’t think of anything good to write (doing no prep work doesn’t help).  This year, I didn’t even bother saying I was going to try, but after reading so much fanfic (and one particularly LONG piece of fanfic at that) I thought to myself, “Hey, I can do that.”

I’m going to try my hand at a novel length piece of Harry Potter fanfic.  It takes place about eight years or so after the group has graduated Hogwarts and works on the premise that the Knight to King theory is true.  Ron and Hermione will obviously be together.  I wouldn’t have it any other way and I bite my thumb at all the fanfics out there that pair either of them with someone else.

I’m nervous about it because while I love Harry Potter, I’m not the biggest fan out there.  I haven’t studied the novels, I’ve just read them.  So I’m worried about remaining consistant with the books.  I’m also not Brittish if you haven’t noticed so this might be a little on the American side of things.

I’m surprised by how well it’s going so far.  Once I have a little more of the plot fleshed out and I know for sure where I’m going with this, I’ll start sharing what I’ve written so far for anyone who’s interested.

Oooooh, I wish you much luck on NaNo. I participated in NaNo last year and wrote 52,000 plus words. So, I guess I won. I opted out this year, due to time. But it was such a blast to do. I posted my novel as I wrote it to on a special blog and I had so much positive feedback. It was a blast. I feel a bit bad to be skipping NaNo this year. But my time is just so limited right now. But I do wish you all of the luck with your writing...HUGS!  LOL

I never knew about NaNo, so this year I was totally unawares of it. I’ll be ready for next year though. but I just might put up what I’ve written in the past anyways. That sounds like a great idea.

I can’t wait to hear what you got for HP. smile I’ve read all the books so far, and I love them! I haven’t read much fan fiction though, I guess I better look around for that, I’m needing something to read nowadays. Looking forward to yours!

I’m interested!!!!!!!

If you need a beta reader, I’m volunteering.  Not that I’ve beta’d before, but, y’know..

There are a few American-British translator resources out there for HPFF authors.  I know I’ve seen them.  If you like, I can try and hunt down where, but I’m sure it’s been through either The Daily Snitch livejournal community or on the forums at The Sugar Quill or Checkmated.  I’m sure both of those forums, also, would have a few other resources, as well.

Oh, and I’m with you on the Ron/Hermione thing.  I once read a Harry/Hermione story and I couldn’t even finish it.  Bleh.

I’d definitely like to read, too! And I’m with you and Jenn on Ron and Hermione. Them with anyone else is just wrong!

I’m a huge procrastinator.  The photo meme is on my list of things to do, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.  Maybe this weekend.  smile

Good luck with NaNo—each year, I keep meaning to participate, but November is such a lousy time for me that I always put the project aside.  Writing fanfic is a good way to get into the writing swing—have fun!  smile
