What a disappointing episode!
Michael cracks, takes a gun and runs off into the jungle to find Walt. Jack, Sawyer and Locke band together to find him and bring him back. All the while, we learn what happened to Jack’s marriage.
There wasn’t much new information revealed in this one.

I don’t even know where to begin, so I’ll begin with Sawyer since he’s my favorite. I was too happy to see him take a large part in this episode, but couldn’t it have been a better episode? He’s had a bad effing week, hasn’t he? It couldn’t have been much more than a week since he was shot, drug across the jungle and nearly died from his untreated wound. That being said, he does recover fast, doesn’t he?
I finally got some answers to some of the questions I asked regarding Sawyer and Jack. I knew Sawyer’s real first name was James, but I hadn’t caught his last name. After referring to Locke as Mr. Clean, he took it upon himself to question the nickname Sawyer had given to himself. On the passenger manifest, Sawyer was listed as James Ford.
Additionally we learn that Jack’s wife cheated on him. I was hoping she’d died. Sarah doesn’t seem like Jack’s type. Kate, Ana Lucia and even Gabrielle all look very similar and next to them, Sarah sticks out like a sore thumb. It seems like Jack married her because she was the one thing he was able to fix and he wanted to hold onto that.
Now we must question who she was having an affair with. What happened to her old fiance? Wasn’t she engaged at the time of her surgery? It would be much more interesting if it was someone on the island. Sawyer seems to be the most probable candidate. Jack seems perpetually mad at Sawyer because of his love for Kate. I’m not sure what’s going on here. Either Jack loves Kate himself, or he wants to love her, can’t, and hates Sawyer because even he has the ability to love her. It seems like Jack doesn’t want to see Sawyer and Kate together, which would explain why he didn’t want Kate to go tracking with them.
I don’t understand why Jack wants to boss everyone around. In the first few episodes wasn’t he always whining about how he didn’t want to have any responsibility on this island, he wasn’t their leader and so forth? Who does he think he is telling Kate she can’t come with them or telling Michael he can’t go off to look for his son (crazy though it may be)? Locke’s right in this regard.
Apparently “Zeke”, the Other from the boat who shot Sawyer told Alex to bring him Kate. Alex is the name of Rousseau’s child, so I hope this wasn’t just sloppy writing, but rather an actual clue.
I thought when Zeke said they were going to have a talk we’d learn something new. No such luck. Despite Zeke calling them “curious” the Lostaways never seem to be interested in what the Others have to say. They never ask any decent questions and usually kill them before they can say anything useful (Ethan, Goodwin). It seems more evident that there are two groups of Others and that they are fighting each other, but that’s just speculation.
So nothing new learned. The Sun/Jin parts of the episode were wonderful and brought tears to my eyes. Their scenes always do. I hope Hurley can get some Libby action and that Libby doesn’t turn out to be an Other or otherwise some sort of traitor. And Sayid! I saw Sayid! I know it’s only been a couple days since Shannon’s death, but people can mourn for months and at the rate this show’s progressing, it’ll be season 5 before I see anymore Sayid. Hey Jack, how about asking someone who’s actually been in an army about how to form and train one?
There were a couple cool moments. Sun, Jin and Sawyer’s snarks saved it, but it’s still pretty useless. One of the worst, if not the worst episode of the series.
Oh, I sort of liked it. I agree that the Jack backstory wasn’t all I hoped it would be, especially after Eko’s story from last week which was so so so amazing.
I think that record is going to be significant. I kept yelling at the screen for Charlie to put the damn thing on the turntable.
Yeah. They mentioned Geronimo Jackson several times, so I think we were supposed to notice it.

I’ve never managed to see a single episode of Lost. I alway remember that I WANT to watch it, but never actually get around to it.
I so need to buy the DVDs or something. Is the first season even out on DVD yet?
Oh, and you’ve been mentioned in Issue #3 of Randomized. (Sorry, not trying to go all comment-spam on you, just wanted you to know I’m not talking about you BEHIND your back. -smile-)
Hey Zippy,
The first season is out on DVD and you can buy all the episodes in the 2nd season from iTunes.
I HIGHLY recommend at least renting the first disc of season one on DVD to try it out. It’s a great series!
And thanks for the mention.
