Lost: 02-13, “The Long Con”

I am spellbound by last night’s episode of Lost! It was Sawyer-centric, which couldn’t please me more. Sawyer is my absolute favorite character on this show and without him, I’m not sure I could watch it. For once we had a good mix of island and flashback, without too much of either.

While Sawyer was off in the raft and on the other side of the island, his stash of goodies was taken and distributed among the group. This angered him, so he raided Jack’s medical supplies and took back whatever pills he had previously.

Jack and Locke agreed reluctantly that they would both have the combination to the gun vault as long as both of them consented should it need to be opened. Locke casually explained the row of Virgin Mary heroin statues by indicating they may have some therapeutic value. He didn’t take them out of the statues because he thought it would be unlucky to break seven Virgin Mary statues. That makes sense enough. My hopes of this being an episode where Locke loses all rational thought were squashed already, I could tell.

Lost: 02-12, “Fire + Water”

I truly wasn’t expecting to like an episode centered around Charlie. While I do like Dominic Monaghan as an actor (and a singer), the character he plays is a bit messed up. I don’t know if I’d say it was because of his heroin addiction, but maybe it is. He’s nice and charming and funny one minute and the next he’s giving you the evil eye and plotting against you. After last week’s disappointment, this episode was actually pretty freaking cool! It didn’t do much to solve any island mysteries, but it did open up some new ones!

What a disappointing episode!

Michael cracks, takes a gun and runs off into the jungle to find Walt. Jack, Sawyer and Locke band together to find him and bring him back. All the while, we learn what happened to Jack’s marriage.

There wasn’t much new information revealed in this one.

Lost: 02-10, “The 23rd Psalm”

Last night’s brand new Lost episode centered around the mysterious Mister Eko. Charlie was a huge part of the episode as well. I’m not sure we saw Sayid at all. Again, I have a tolerable amount of Ana Lucia (did she even speak?). I guess Rose and Bernard were back in their tent making up for lost time because they were scarce as well.

There were several important developments in the plot tonight.

Alias: Season One

When Mark and I got into Lost we kept hearing J.J. Abram’s other show, Alias was of equally high quality (at least in the first few seasons). To be honest, I’ve never really been into ABC as a network and I’ve missed out on a many of their shows the first time around simply because I didn’t know they were on. I’d heard about Alias, of course, and I think I even saw half an episode once, but I guess I just didn’t think Alias was going to turn out to be for me.

I was very, very wrong.

This season runs full circle. Many mysteries are set up and some are solved within a few episodes, while others aren’t even addressed again until the final few episodes. The show itself is fast paced and gets your heart pumping!

We just got back into town last night after thirteen and a half hours driving and of course the first thing I did was plunk down on the couch to watch last week’s episode of Lost. I was so very excited about watching Lost last night because it was my first ‘real-time’ episode. Caught up with the rest of the world, I can finally view (spoiler free) threads about the episode and interact with others about what’s going on. I’ve decided I’m going to try to write out my thoughts after each show and post them here.

For now I’m not going to try to be structured or coherent and will just babble as I see fit. I might try to organize my thoughts a little more in the future if I continue to do this. Mostly my thoughts are just questions. Feel free to comment with your own thoughts and/or theories, but please do not post or point me to any spoilers for future episodes. (Mentioning what happened in the preview for next week is okay.)
